Sting’s Greatest AEW Run

The Sting Make shocked the world when he joined AWE in December 2020. It was an iconic moment for both AEW and wrestling fans. After joining, he made an alliance with rising star Darby Allen. The Icon challenged Brian Cage and Ricky Starks in a street fight at the Revolution 2021 cinematic match; it was his first match on AEW. Sting continues to dominate in AEW at the age of 64 years old.

Sting Wrestle his first live match in front of a crowd since WWE Night of Champions in 2015 in a Double or Nothing pay-per-view.On the August 18, 2021, episode of Dynamite, Sting wrestled on TNT for the first time in 20 years as he and Allin defeated Jeff Parker and Matt Lee. The Icon continues to wrestle several matches in 2021 and continues to dominate his opponent with no selling manner. He makes so many memorable moments in AEW. During an interview on The Chase McCabe Show, AEW’s CEO and Head of Creative Tony Khan made the statement that Sting is on his greatest run in pro wrestling.

“When you talk about some of the biggest names in pro wrestling, for me, it starts and ends with Sting. He’s one of the all-time legends, he’s one of my all-time favorites. He’s still a huge part of AEW. One of the greatest things we’ve accomplished is bringing Sting out of retirement. He is still wrestling to this day. He is undefeated in AEW, in fact, and on the greatest run of his career, right now, here in AEW.”

Sting remains undefeated in AEW and continues his winning streak in the latest All-In show in London, where he and Allen defeated Strickland and Christian Cage in a coffin match on August 25, 2023.

Sting injury in WWE Night of Champions 2015

Back in 2015, Sting wrestled Seth Rollins on the Night of Champions for the WWE Championship. During the match, he took a turnbuckle powerbomb, which cost him a serious neck injury. He continued the match and got defeated by Rollins. It was a career-ending injury. Sting said that a doctor told his wife that he was lucky to have walked out of the ring, and following a CT scan and MRI, he heard talk of cervical spinal stenosis. The WCW legend was forced to retire after suffering a neck injury that took him out of action for five long years.

After joining AEW Sting and Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes convinced him to compete in a squared circle. He challenges Team Taz at the AEW Revolution. He takes a powerbomb, one of the most devastating bumps in wrestling. Sting claims that Powerbomb takes away all his ring rust, and he is ready for action after six long years. At the age of 62, he wrestled his first match after a career-ending injury, which is very inspiring. He continued wrestling for the next two years.

Sting Said : “I never thought I’d be back here like this. I thought I was just going to disappear from wrestling, and I didn’t like the thought of that. Then I came to AEW, and originally, we were just going to explore cinematic matches. And I got in the ring. I can still hear Cody [Rhodes] telling me about my kinetic energy and that I could wrestle a match. I was like, ‘Ease up now, Cody.’ Then I heard Darby say, ‘Steve, you can do it.’ This entire stretch, and now coming back to Greensboro, it has all been surreal.”

Stink makes so many breathtaking moments in his undefeated run in AEW. One of the most memorable high-risk moments in Sting’s AEW run came during a match against Team Taz at the AEW Revolution. Sting climbed a scissor lift, perched on the platform, and delivered his signature Stinger Splash to his opponents below. It was a breathtaking moment that showcased his fearlessness and commitment to delivering memorable moments.

AEW Dynamite Sting and Darby Allin challenge “Painmaker” Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a Tornado Tag Team match during the match. Sting climbs the ladder and takes a dive splash on Sammy Guevara, who was lying on the table outside of the ring, which is breathtaking. The 64-year-old veteran stunts the fans with his dive outside the ring. The icon admitted to suffering an injury while performing the stunt and said he would require several stitches.

In 2023, The Icon Sting brought back his Joker gimmick debut on the promo to hype up the upcoming Coffin Match at All In against Mogul Embassy. At All In on August 25, 2023, Sting and Darby Allin battled Swerve Strickland and Christian Cage in a tag team coffin match at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday. At the end of the match, Sting uses his legendary maneuver on Strickland on top of the coffin and puts him in the coffin.
